Dear SAFSF Network,
When I started with SAFSF in 2003 I would never have imagined—even in my wildest dreams—that I would still be here some twenty plus years later. I look back and wonder how so many years have flown by and how I came to be blessed with work and relationships that would captivate my attention – and my heart—for over two decades! This has been such a joyful, soulful ride – such an incredible honor and opportunity to work and learn alongside you.
I write now to let you know I will step down from my role as Executive Director at the end of 2023. Leadership changes are simply a normal and healthy part of the evolution of any organization and it’s that time for SAFSF and for me. My decision to leave this remarkable organization has not been an easy one but I feel there are new adventures both professional and personal that await me.
I’m proud to leave SAFSF in strong standing with an exceptional staff, a strong Board of Directors, and an engaged membership, and I know that SAFSF will benefit from the perspectives, talents, and ideas new leadership will bring. There is much work to be done as we move forward in the coming months. I want to be a part of passionate and challenging discussions yet to come. I want to support your work – individually and collectively – to have the kind of impact you (and I) dream of.
I hope to see many of you at the 2023 SAFSF Forum in Washington, D.C., or on one of my planned sojourns to various parts of the country this year. While my plans post-SAFSF are fluid at this time, please know I will continue to be a vocal champion in support of sustainable agriculture and equitable food systems.
But in the meantime, there’s work to be done – let’s do it!

Virginia Clarke, SAFSF Executive Director
