Mission
SAFSF’s mission is to mobilize diverse capital partners in support of just and sustainable food and agriculture systems.
Vision
SAFSF envisions a world where food and agriculture systems are resilient, just, and democratic.
We advocate for climate resilient and environmentally sustainable agriculture based in ecological stewardship, agroecology, Indigenous knowledge, and regenerative practices, contributing to healthy ecosystems and future generations. To achieve true sustainability, we recognize food and agriculture as pathways to social and racial equity, by supporting Black, Indigenous and People of Color, immigrants, workers, 2SLGBTQIA+, women, disabled, low-income, poor, and other urban and rural marginalized communities in attaining equitable food access, economic opportunity, and food sovereignty. We also envision a food system guided by democracy and shaped by inclusive movements, civic participation, and community-led policy, ensuring that all people have the power to shape the food and agriculture systems affecting their lives.
Values
Advance Justice: We actively challenge power imbalances by centering marginalized communities and advancing social, racial, economic and environmental justice. We listen to and learn from the leadership of frontline communities, and prioritize their insights in shaping strategies for change in food and agriculture.
Catalyze Transformation: We catalyze change in food and agriculture systems by combining immediate and incremental action with a vision for long-term transformation.
Build A Diverse Movement: We believe there is power in building a big and diverse tent of participants, partners and ideas. We recognize there is a role for everyone in social change, and a need for diverse organizations, sectors and communities to work together and build the power necessary for systems change. We connect and collaborate through our shared values and commitment to change.
Change the Status Quo: We recognize the status quo is inequitable, unsustainable, and built on a legacy of extraction and exploitation of land and people. We challenge ourselves to see beyond the current paradigm in food, agriculture, and capital.
Build Beloved Community: We create a welcoming, courageous, and inclusive environment where all voices are respected, authentic connections are formed, and participants feel belonging. We welcome members and partners to collaborate in our work in a multitude of ways.
Practice Accountability: We hold ourselves accountable to our partners, our communities, and the wellbeing of the Earth. We act with integrity, embodying our values, and deliver meaningful results toward our mission. We practice continuous improvement, seek to learn with humility and make a substantial impact.
