I serve as The Russell Family Foundation‘s Senior Program Officer, based in Gig Harbor, Washington. Our foundation’s vision is ‘a thriving, equitable, and sustainable Earth.’ Guided by this vision, we invest in people and places to advance environmental sustainability and address the climate crisis. As part of our vision, we launched the Food for Climate Solutions grantmaking program in 2023. This program is designed to address the negative impacts of climate change while fostering a thriving local and regional food system and more equitable access to local, healthy, and sustainable grown food.
Throughout the developmental phase of this program, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Funders (SAFSF) has been an invaluable ally. As an organization, SAFSF has played a pivotal role in providing crucial opportunities for learning and staying abreast of key national priorities. This, in turn, has informed and enriched our localized and region-specific program. The fundamental value of the SAFSF network is truly immeasurable, and the in-person experiences have been instrumental in fostering both learning and network building.
One aspect of SAFSF that particularly resonates with me is its firm commitment to equity, placing it squarely at the core of its mission. As we continue to refine and evolve our work in food systems and climate solutions, I am eager to delve deeper into the wealth of knowledge and insights that SAFSF consistently provides.
I am grateful to SAFSF for their continuous support and look forward to further collaboration, learning, and positive impact on our shared journey toward a more sustainable and equitable future.
