The SAFSF Forum is a unique conference for the full spectrum of funders – including philanthropy, investors and community finance institutions – to engage with peers, movement leaders, and practitioners across the country around a shared mission for an equitable and sustainable food and agriculture.
About Our Theme: Resilience, Justice, Democracy
For over 20 years, SAFSF has united funders in investing in sustainable food and agriculture. Today, we stand with those envisioning systems change rooted in Resilience, Justice, and Democracy. Programs will explore ways to achieve climate resilient and environmentally sustainable agriculture, justice and equitable outcomes for marginalized communities, and democratic control of food systems, through strategies of change across culture, policy, markets and tools. A throughline for the conference will be how different types of capital can support frontline communities, movement building, and systems change.
Resilience: Creating food and agriculture systems that can withstand and adapt to challenges like climate change and social disruptions. This involves embracing climate stewardship, agroecology and regenerative farming, Indigenous traditional ecological knowledge, and building strong, adaptable communities.
Justice: Transforming food systems to address historical and systemic inequities. This theme focuses on uplifting marginalized communities and ensuring equitable access to resources, opportunities, and decision-making power in food and agriculture.
Democracy: Empowering communities to have a say in shaping the policies and practices that affect their food systems. This theme emphasizes community-led governance and policy, participatory decision-making, movement building and civic engagement to create a more inclusive and representative food system.
Join us June 9 – 12, 2025 in New Mexico
The 2025 Forum will bring SAFSF’s network to the Southwest for the first time in 20 years. We are gathering at Tamaya Resort, which is operated by and located on sovereign Santa Ana Pueblo land. Join us for skill building, networking, and leadership development in food and agriculture systems change. Early bird registration opens in April 2025. Sign up for our newsletter to receive updates.
We invite you to help shape the Forum by submitting program ideas through our new Request for Ideas (RFI).
The RFI is designed to be accessible and inclusive, allowing potential collaborators to share their ideas without the need to submit full proposals upfront. By simplifying the submission requirements and engaging a wide range of voices—from frontline communities and movement leaders to funders, government leaders, field-based practitioners, and other stakeholders—we aim to create a program that is representative of diverse perspectives.
We will be offering two Open House sessions to review the process and respond to Frequently Asked Questions. Submissions for the Forum will be reviewed on a rolling basis with a final close date of Sunday, January 12, 2025. We encourage you to submit your ideas early!
